Clearing a vista in the jungle of intraoral scanners:

The basis of aligner therapy is impression-taking and representation of the clinical situation as precisely as possible. Conventional impression-taking is still standard in daily practice. However, it is afflicted with numerous material and method-related errors.

Intraoral scanners should be the tool of choice today, especially in aligner therapy, as they allow more efficient and precise treatment. But in which ways do the many scanners offered on the market differ?

The launch of new techniques and software options make modern intraoral scanners more than just impression-taking machines. For example, it is possible to carry out caries diagnostics within the scope of scanning, to record real jaw movements, or to monitor tooth movements, abrasion, grinding facets or recessions by superimposing scans from different dates. Simulations using Smile Design or aligner therapy are possible.
